Thesis review

Which assumption is doing the work?

Make the premises behind an investment view clear enough to examine—and specific enough to revisit.

Write a premise, not a slogan.

“A strong business” is difficult to test. A statement about repeat demand, margins or cash collection gives the research a question. Keep the premise separate from the evidence used to support it.

Look for the strongest challenge.

Research can become a collection of reasons to agree with an existing view. Record evidence that challenges it too. If a management explanation is central to the case, keep it attributed and identify what would make it more or less convincing.

Keep changes to the view visible.

When a premise weakens or becomes better supported, record why. A revised view should not erase the earlier one. The progression is part of the research, especially when you return after the next results announcement.
